Musical Notes is an after-school
volunteer organization, founded by Tenafly High School student Melissa Romanovich ('13).
The program is dedicated to spreading music education and music appreciation to Elementary and Middle School students, and is fiscally sponsored by City Lore, a non-profit organization in New York City.
Since its inception in the 2009-2010 school year, Musical Notes has branched out to nine Elementary and Middle Schools, Family Centers, Religious Institutions, and a summer camp across half a dozen school districts across Northern New Jersey.
Musical Notes is constantly expanding to more schools, and is in the process of working with after-school programs that serve children with special needs.
Throughout the year, Musical Notes high school volunteers travel to these various locations to teach basic music theory, vocal performance, and show tunes to students ages 4-12 (grades PreK - 7) during after-school and summer camp hours.
The culmination of each semester is a show that the students put on for their parents and friends, making Musical Notes a learning and cultural experience for the entire community.
Musical Notes has been written about in the Northern Valley Suburbanite, The New Jersey Jewish Standard, and is scheduled to appear in L'Chaim Magazine in the near future. The program has also been featured on the Music Theater International website, twitter feed, and the Creative Bridge Coalition Facebook page.
